"A new survey conducted by ChannelNews and SmartHouse of 10 retail chains who operate more than 2,000 stores across Australia has revealed that the Xbox 360 is “on the skids,” as the retailers see growth coming mainly from the PlayStation 3 and Nintendo Wii. “They [MS] have tried discounting and value add offers and even that is not working. We are even thinking of dumping the console all together.”

To drop the system would be a massive step, it would have to be doing worse than the Gamecube for that to happen so soon. There would be no benefit to a retailer dropping the 360 at this point, even in Japan and it's doing considerably worse there than Australia. It's not like anybody save perhaps Microsoft is making a loss stocking and selling them down under. It makes no sense.
Moreover, one of the stories on the front page of that site (ironically another 360 one) is from February. It doesn't have a GameRush tld (strange) and is built on free web space. It's certainly not a site I've heard of nor a terribly professional looking one, reputable or not. I'm not exactly sure how reliable a retail survey from a site without a proper domain or on hosted web space is.

Maybe I should've spent more time reediting the article with less emphasis on the dumping and more emphasis on the decrease in marketing and pushing the 360 in their stores. It was late when I posted it so I did more of a copy of their original article than a reedit of my own. I still think it is an important article, I had never heard anything of this sort before reading it, other than the rumors that the lowering sales in the US are not due to shortages. We will see in the coming months how well the 360 will do in the future.
