I had to check the date when I read this. Apparently it's been in development with Rare since last August and due to be released by the end of the year. MTV couldn't name their source but seemed confident having verified the project's development with "several industry sources". They even have a sketch and details of it's intended functionality at the link. Had it been any old blog, I wouldn't have posted it but MTV aren't lightweights and Rare sure have been very quiet of late...

If it is add-on, not replacing core controller, not all X360 owner will have it. Developers will need to estimate how many % of X360 userbase have the "X360mote" and adjust their sales expectation accordingly.

1) Only if it violates patent. For instance, Nintendo has a different form of rumble than what Microsoft/Sony licence. As long as they don't utilize the same technology, or market it in a way to cause consumer confusion, there's no lawsuit.
2) The story indicates it would be an add-on, not to replace the core controller.
3) The goal is to get developers to port Wii-exclusive games over to the 360, so it would depend on how many go for it.[ Oracle ] [ Level 21 ] [ Rank: 182 ]bids

There is a whole host of issues here for MS to deal with if this comes to light. I imagine it will be a peripheral packed in with a game and an addition to the 360 controller.
They were also talking in the article about a Mii like avatar as well!

So many questions :
- IMO, Too similar to Wii-mote, just like Windows are similar to Mac OS. Any possibilities of lawsuit ?
- Will this replace standard X360 controller, or will it be just peripheral (like Balance Board or Nunchuk is peripheral to Wii-mote, or Eye Toy is peripheral) ?
