  The most a second-place console has ever hit is 35 million. As of yet I haven't seen a reason to believe PS3 or X360 will beat that by much, so I think their current lifetime prices on simExchange are overboard. Needless to say, I find Hirai's target ridiculous.

  The 360? The 360 only has a lead on the PS3 still because of its year head start. The Wii is the console that's whipping the PS3.

  I think Kaz is fighting an uphill battle with that one - the PS3 is going to remain uncompetitive in terms of price through to March 2009. No Playstation has had to fight competition like this (Wii60) before.

  Kaz Hirai, chief executive of Sony’s PlayStation games console business, has set an ambitious target of reaching nearly 150m in sales for its slow-starting PlayStation 3 console. Sony told those attending the video game industry’s E3 convention last week that sales of its original PlayStation, launched in 1994, had reached 102m units and the PlayStation 2 console had now passed 140m worldwide in its ninth year on sale.
