Rising development costs might force console makers Microsoft and Sony to publish more video games themselves, as independent studios avoid exclusive deals for blockbusters. "The cost of making a game is so high that you need to recover it by selling a lot more units," said Pachter. "The lack of a dominant console means it's too difficult (for software makers) to give up on a console," said BMO Capital Markets analyst Ed Williams.

in concept i've been totally been agreeing for the last two years... BUT it seems funny to me to see this old concept restated especially now when i'm somehow getting the impression that exclusives are popping up in surprising numbers (360 because it's got somethign to prove that it's staying, ps3 because it needs to catch up and many internal sony teams, wii because it's different)
