Microsoft reported a whopping $15 billion in revenue for the the company's first quarter — which ends September 30th, if you're keeping track — a record for the company in that particular time period. The software giant attributes at least some of that positive operating income to the company's Xbox 360 platform, noting "healthy sales" of the console contributing to its record quarter. Not bad for a quarter with no Halo games released.

The Xbox 'division' of the MS Entertainment and Devices Division actually had revenues go DOWN 22% so unless MS magically lowered their production costs by that amount over the quarter I would suspect that the operating income of the Entertainment and Devices Division was dragged DOWN due to Xbox, not enhanced.

The operating profit was up which is the important number and that figure quoted in the article claimed to be for the Xbox and Games division. Revenue will be affected by price cuts and other margin erosion and so is to be expected.
