Microsoft's head of gaming and entertainment in the UK, Stephen McGill, claims, "We're at a great price now. I'm not dropping the price for many many years in the future I would suspect."

I think MS will stay at their current price for at the very least half a year, and perhaps much longer even given that scenario. If a system outsells them at $400 versus $200/$300, then lowering the price further really is not the answer. Personally, if that happened with the price cut in place and Sony not pulling a Rabbit out of the hat then Microsoft might as well give up and save the money on R and D.
If on the other hand over the back 3 Quarters Sony eats into a strong Xmas and first quarter then I can certainly see Microsoft coming up with something, which maybe a price cut or a stronger package.
I am still amazed at what Microsoft have done here with this 5 pronged attack. Price, Bundles, AAA, Marketing and the XNE. If when you put all this together they bomb well their is your answer.[ Oracle ] [ Level 30 ] [ Rank: 60 ]bids

What do you think will happen IF (I know the probability is quite low, but let's do a what if scenario) X360 sales # is only slightly higher than PS3 # in holiday 08, and X360 # is below PS3 # on Q1 FY 2009 ?

I agree it is PR spiel, but I also think it shows 360 will likely stay at its current prices for awhile. Lowering the prices again won't do much for sales since they're already quite low. I think they will stay at current prices at least a year as long as they're still fairly close to monthly PS3 sales.[ Oracle ] [ Level 26 ] [ Rank: 241 ]bids

This is just PR spiel. They will stay competitive and even though they talk about this grand strategy they still need to keep and eye on the ball.
I do not doubt that they do not intend to have another price cut any time soon but when Sony finally come out with a significant price cut then Microsoft will need to react.
When can Sony commit to this price cut, well that is a good question. I am with Apujanata when he suggests it is a deflection of anticipated bi-annual price cuts.[ Oracle ] [ Level 30 ] [ Rank: 60 ]bids

I would be very surprised if X360 didn't have at least one price cut BEFORE Dec 2010.
I believe that he is just asking for potential customer to "buy it NOW", instead of waiting for early 2009 with hope that "since MSFT has 2 price cut in 2008, we sure can expect at least one price cut in 2009".[ Oracle ] [ Level 30 ] [ Rank: 14935 ]bids

He didn't say quite the same thing with their March price cut but he seemed confident in that price point too!

I think everyone is forgetting just how long the 360 stayed at its original £280 launch price point (for premium). IIRC it was something like 500-600 days, and has only recently been beaten by the Wii. If MS are truly comfortable with this price then im sure they will stick with it for the time being. The flurry of recent price cuts is them just 'catching up' for not having any for so long, remember the 360 came out 3 years ago now.
