Final Fantasy XIII is the next installment of the Final Fantasy series and the first for the PS3. The game will feature real-time game play in a similar fashion to Final Fantasy XII (PS2). Battles will feature a new Overclock system instead of the usual limit break system. An Overclock meter builds and once it is filled, you can use it to slow down time for everyone except your characters.
The player takes the role of a girl who calls herself "Lightning." She is one of the common citizens who live in the Pulse. Their world is governed by the people who live in Coccon, a floating fortress that hovers above them. The game's focus is the story of those who resist their tyrannical rulers.

FFXIII Coming to Xbox 360

Sorry, Sony. The Xbox 360 is finally going to get a blockbuster RPG. Square has announced at the Microsoft press conference that Final Fantasy XIII is going to be released on Xbox 360 the same day as PS3 in North America and Europe. What a huge coup for Microsoft, and what a great piece of news for Xbox 360 owners who also happen to be great console RPG lovers.

Fear not, says the comforting voice of long time series character designer Tetsuya Nomura, the long wait for the Fabula Nova Crystallis collection will be over soon enough. Not only does he swear by the game's 2008 release date, he teases at a playable demo for FFXIII on the PlayStation Network a while before the game is released, to show off the game's revamped battle system.
