Dragon Quest IX is the next installment in the revered Dragon Quest serious of role-playing games and it is the first of the numbered games in the franchise to appear on a handheld. The game is designed and exclusive for the Nintendo DS. The game will feature an action-oriented battle system (as has become popular with the company’s Final Fantasy games) rather than turn-based combat. The game will feature cooperative multiplayer over Wi-Fi.

Dragon Quest IX nearly finished

In an Interview with Bloomberg Japan, Yoichi Wada revealed that DQ 9 is nearly finished. He stated that many people want this game ASAP but they are still tweaking the Online mode and the Single player for its "Balance". He also stated that DQ 9 is a big title release for them so they don't want to rush it. He did not mention a release date window.

In fact, it's may well be the first genuine advancement the franchise has seen since Dragon Quest II...players will be teaming up with their friends to beat monsters down in real-time.
