Kirby: Squeak Squad (DS) tumbles following sharp drop in North American sales

Nintendo Co Ltd.'s (ADR: NTDOY) Kirby: Squeak Squad (DS) saw its shares tumble 9.12% yesterday following January sales numbers that disappointed traders. Shares had risen dramatically over the past month following blockbuster first month of sales in December, selling 240,500 copies in North America according to VGcharts. This, combined with strong sales in Japan, totaled 1,095,500 copies sold at a point that seemed to be very young in the game’s lifetime.

Many traders had believed Nintendo had another DS success story in the works. However, January numbers point to a sharp drop in demand as Kirby: Squeak Squad only sold 30,000 copies in North America (-87.5% change month-over-month). Such a sharp decline in sales point to a much lower lifetime sales forecast for the game. Shares were down another 0.90% to 155 DKP (forecasts 1.55 million copies sold worldwide over lifetime) at the time of this writing.
