@xaustinx, I agree with your position, and this is what Arbiter suggests. The game needs to cater to a spectrum of participants. The best is to offer each feature, both simple and advanced, and let participants decide which ones they want to use.
For me, its not really even a game but more of a tool to get a better idea of how a particular video game product will sell. I don't really submit articles (unless they are about the company's stock) or do stuff just to get DKP. I just want to see good forecasts that I can then use in the real stock market. I like reading the analysis posted by the community here because it is much more thoughtful than other sites.
I think the best thing to do is allow people to understand the auction system and want to rangle with ascertaining an IPO price do it, but hide the process from the people who might get confused by it and end up losing DKP. These people wouldn't see the stock as tradable until the price is fixed and all they have to do is decide if they want to buy or sell.
Basically this is like the safety checks in the real financial markets... the more sophisticated activities you want to do, the more qualified you have to be to participate (such as trading options, futures, or participating in IPOs).
