There is a possibility that NPD was wrong and actually under-calculated the number of copies sold for certain versions of Harry Potter (NPD does not get data from some big retailers such as Wal-Mart, and their extrapolation (or however they make up for this lack of data) may have underestimated the number of copies being sold at these locations).
