Can someone with an understanding of the business world reply to this to confirm I have this right in my head:
My understanding of what Microsoft did, seeing as they announced the warranty decision only a week or two ago, is that if they can post a year-end loss including the warranty issue, and the fiscal year ends in March, that they have decided to put said 1Bn loss into last year's figures.
If that is the case, then of course they can still be confident of posting a profit for this year because they don't have the 1bn to compete with.
I also noticed that they have reduced the cost of production, i think a price drop is therefore inevitable
