I don't think the system requirements will be as much of a detriment as some of you may think. Take a look at the beta's requirements:
Multiplayer Beta System Requirements (beta-only, not final game spec):
Operating System: Microsoft® Windows® XP (SP2 recommended) Processor: 1.8 GHz or greater; 3.0 Ghz or greater, dual core, recommended RAM: 512 MB or greater; 2 GB recommended Hard Drive: 3 GB available hard disk space Video: 128 MB video RAM or greater, with Vertex Shader / Pixel Shader 2.0 support; ATI X800 XL or greater, nVidia GeForce 6800 or greater recommended Audio: Sound card or on-board audio component, speakers or headphones Internet: 56.6 Kbps Internet connection required; Cable/DSL speeds with 24 Kbps upstream per opponent recommended.
Granted, the "recommended" standards are pretty high, but otherwise the only thing I'm worried about is the requirement for a 128MB video card (which I, who doesn't spend too much money on my computer, have). Additionally, the game's developers say that the "game is almost completely unoptimized" and that when it comes out of beta for final release, the requirements should be decently lower.
I wish they would take the route of many RTS developers and release this game on the Xbox 360. It's too hard to keep up with computer hardware, especially just for one game. The strategy games on Xbox 360 are executed pretty well.
I'm a big fan of RTS games and let me say one thing, this looks amazing. Amazing enough, in fact, to buy a new multi-core PC just to be able to play. The high system requirements could hold this title back for a while imo. We could see an increase in sales once the general user has a system capable of playing this game
Despite the release of other RTS games recently, SupCom already has a decent following I believe— many of the people who played Total Annihilation in the past. And PC Gamer had a preview on this as its feature article about a year ago. I'm sure it's possible that this could become a big-hype game. It's just that there's been no solid release date so far.
Re: the submission "SC Beta Cracked," I do consider this newsworthy, but submitting an article with links to the crack itself might not be a good idea.
@ Adchang, don't most people just snap up big name games? I dunno if SC qualifies as a big name game yet though. Seems like most people online are treating this as one of the underdog games you have to buy to help them make some money to make sure they can make sequels--like the TV show Firefly.
