Play.com is reporting that GT5 orders placed after the 25th of March can not be sent on time - due to the game being completely sold out! As one of the biggest Sony franchises there is, GT5 can only mean good things for the PS3 going forward.
According to Sony, the North American version of the 'real driving simulator' will include "a dozen exclusive singles," including an "exclusive remix" of Weezer's song "Automatic" from the band's upcoming album.
In addition, the game will feature a new version of Polyphony Digital's Masahiro Andoh's series theme song, "Moon Over the Castle." Seventeen international musical numbers from such names as Goose and Nittoku Inoue are also included. (Full list is in the link.)
As expected, the graphics in Gran Turismo 5 Prologue are of the highest quality, particularly when it comes to the cars. Every single piece of the exterior designs appears to have been modeled perfectly, and the lighting and environments reflect off of the bodywork in an extremely convincing manner. It really is possible to look at the game in certain conditions and believe that you're looking at a real video, which makes it all the more tragic that the game has no photo mode.
From what I have seen on VG (!!) and Wiki (!!) previous GT entrys sell between 15 and 20% of their total sales in Japan.
GT5 Prologue has sole how many in Japan? Reportedly approx 250,000.
If old patterns hold true that would put total sales at between 1.25 million and 2.5 million at the outside for life time sales.
How do we match this historical pattern to current 4 million lifetime sales (you all do know that this game will only sell for approx 1 year before the full game arrives right?) and the supposed 1 million pre orders?
I think digital downloading is making this extremely difficult to measure and hope that we get some numbers from PD or SONY on the DL side of things. Disc sales are unlikely to be 4 million in my opinion (that is a 25-40% attachment rate given that it is on sale for likely just a year)
and if it turns out to be a hit and the numbers transfer over to America, i stand to make a killing. first i think there will be a bigger proportion of digital downloads in America than Europe(i know that doesnt support my opinion). but if Europe (which is a similar sized market to America) can do one million in pre-orders already with 10 days to release, even if that does count bundles, it should do well over that after two weeks of release making it closer to 1.5milion especially after downloads. i think that sales will transfer over to the US to some degree and if it does 1mil total in April then i think it will be over 500k in hard copies sold.
If it does 500k i make a killing, and if it does 1million (which theres a chance of it doing imo) i make about a 200% return. if it flops and only does 100k or under which could happen then i lose a fortune, but personally my moneys on over 500k. itll be interesting to see whos right come May when the datas released.
@Just_Ben, It is important for people using those numbers to predict similar success in the U.S. for the future because of NPD not counting digital distro units.
Is that important? That was a marketing guy talking about Europe. What will exit in Europe? A bundle! Can that be preordered by shops? Pretty likely. Welcome to the world of marketing ;) 1 Million easy explained ;)
