I wouldn't worry about Game Spot's review, they gave it a lower score than any other review I have read on the game. I have had the game since launch, and I think that they exaggerated on many points.
Article I just submitted under Wii titled "Wii and Games Sales Data" by the Nintendo World Report says 145,068 copies of LOZ:TP were sold in the first 2 days. With their numbers, 39% of Wii console buyers also picked up the game. With the Wii games on the short-term horizon being what they are, this ratio of Wii to LOZ:TP sales may continue pretty strong for a while.
Wow...75% of Wii buyers got Zelda...if that proportion continues through the end of the year (and probably will with the lack of other titles), that is 3 million copies if all 4 million Wii consoles are sold.
Nintendo's press release about Wii sales, mentioned in the article recently submitted by Rogue4, also talks about game sales--
"The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess, a favorite of avid gamers, already has achieved sales of more than 454,000 units in the Americas, representing more than 75 percent of all hardware purchasers."
"There's no finesse to the way the Wii Remote is used, and at times you'll wish that you could just hit a button to swing the sword instead of dealing with all the motion-sensing nonsense. "
"The combat controls using the Wii Remote may feel somewhat different from past games, but it doesn't draw you into the experience any more than using a standard controller would, and at worst, it's imprecise."
"Objectively speaking, it's still a little disappointing that the series hasn't evolved much at all with this latest installment. "
Apparently the motion sensing control isn't making the gameplay any better...basically they conclude its the same thing and at times "nonsense" and "imprecise."
@ Alpha, Agreed. From Nintendo's reiteration of the launch titles today, it looks like LOZ is going to be the big seller this holiday season as the Wii hardware launch looks very strong, but not that many great titles to play besodes LOZ. The Walmart pre-order for Wii that was posted here is already sold out.
From RoommateDave's "Nintendo Makes Final Preparations for Wii Launch" article posted under the Wii page, the Wii has been singled out as the must have gift of the holiday 2006 season. Nintendo expects to ship 4 million Wiis in this period. If that is the case, LOZ: Twilight Princess is going up because this is the must have launch title with the Wii. Nothing else even comes close.
