[Having errors while trying to get online, a user] contacted EA, who told him the hard drive is "needed to store temporary data when playing online as the data transferred from one console to another requires storage space greater than what the memory card can contain."

Burnout Paradise now has a release date of Jan. 22 in North America, and a demo of the game will be available in December for both the PlayStation 3 and the Xbox 360, Electronic Arts has announced.

Not content with just motorcycles and night driving, Criterion has announced that once they are done with the Cagney update, they will begin working on putting planes into Burnout Paradise.

Hot on the heels of the Bogart patch, which mainly consisted of bug fixes and a few minor features, the company has announced the official release date for the more ambitious Cagney update. On July 10th at 9AM UK time, Burnout Paradise owners will gain access to three new Freeburn modes, over 70 new Freeburn challenges, two new vehicles, 3 new liveries, and the long-awaited ability to create custom soundtracks on your PlayStation 3.

As you all know we have been playing, listening and responding to feedback with you all, our community. In addition we've also been working hard to make Burnout Paradise even better. In play time and reading issues that players are reporting we've been making adjustments and fixes to the game. "It's our intention to extend the life of Burnout with additional DLC in the near future," said the EA representative in an email. "As mentioned, we don't want to split the online community between those that have content and those that don't. Our intention is to offer both free and paid for DLC in a way that enables everyone to 'see' the content, even if they have not paid for it."

On the Criterion Games forums, creative director Alex Ward has revealed that new cars will be made available as downloadable content in both the Xbox 360 and PS3 version as micropayments. More exciting, though, is news of the expansion of Paradise City, with the introduction of several islands to the map. Perhaps even more exciting, however, is news that the islands will be offered as a free update to the game.
