We've just confirmed with Midway that Unreal Tournament III for Xbox 360 will hit the console on July 7. The Xbox 360 version will feature five "exclusive" maps, split-screen capabilities, two new characters and the all-new Warfare mode. Of course, the online fragfest will also feature all the benefits of Xbox Live.

IGN reports that the Xbox 360 version of UT3 will have five new "exclusive" maps, two new characters and includes two-player splitscreen. It will also contain the free maps available as DLC for the PS3 and PC versions of the game. Jeff Morris, senior producer at Epic, tells the site he believes UT3 will be a reprieve for those with "tactical shooter fatigue." He stands by the game being an "unabashedly twitch" title.

A funny thing happened on the way to Unreal Tournament 3 coming to Xbox 360: It seems that Sony took a bigger liking to the game and managed to get Midway and Epic to okay having the PS3 be its exclusive console home for a while. However, the proverb "Good things come to those who wait" seems to have some validity here, because the Xbox 360 version will come with some additional content that wasn't originally going to be in the box.

"How did the modding situation with Microsoft work out? Yeah. Well, we're still working on it, so I'm cautiously optimistic right now based on some conversations I had with John Shafner last week. Regardless, we know some of these great mods are going to play a role on Xbox 360, even if we have to get some people and bring them over ourselves. We'll figure it out. I don't think we're going to have user exchanged mods in the shipping version of the game because that's coming pretty soon.

According to the following German magazine image, Unreal Tournament on the Xbox 360 is around 90% complete and due out sometime approximately around April next year.

Our prediction to mods on the Xbox 360 version of Unreal Tournament 3: not so good. In an interview with Joystiq, Epic Games' VP Mark Rein told us that there is no progress with Microsoft on making UT3 mods work with Xbox Live. One would think Microsoft would be more open to community content given the recent Xbox Live Community announcement, but Rein noted that the system is different.

Mark Rein, VP of Epic Games, has provided an update on the status of the Xbox 360 version of Unreal Tournament 3. In an interview with the Guardian Unlimited, Rein said that "the game is up and running on Xbox 360 - it has been for a long time, and its running wonderfully - it just doesn't have any Xbox Live written into it yet so that's the work that remains."
