First Guitar Hero III footage hits the net

IGN/Youtube - August 31, 2007

Word on the tubes is that these videos (one above, one past the break) are for the Xbox 360 version of the game, but they still exhibit some of the changes the franchise has received and showcase two of the new confirmed songs in Weezer's "My Name is Jonas" and Foghat's "Slow Ride." These changes include a revamped HUD, new chain gauge telling you how many notes you hit in a row and a series of lights replacing the old Star Power meter.

Guitar Hero III for Wii hands-on

IGN Wii - August 29, 2007

The Wii version will be the only Guitar Hero game that will feature force-feedback thanks to the rumble in the controller, and believe it or not, in our hands-on, you really could feel the guitar shake to the beat when you rocked out with Star Power, as well as "buzz" when crazy effects are going on in the game.

Wii GHIII fetches $9,100 on eBay

Gamespot - December 17, 2007

Submitted by rpshissl (956) at 12:55PM PST on December 17, 2007

While the seller will undoubtedly be pleased with his return on the $90 game (presuming the amount is actually tendered out), the auction itself was meant to teach his son a lesson. After hounding out retailers for several weeks to land the "Holy Grail of Xmas presents" for his teenaged son, the Canadian grade-school teacher's self-sacrificing efforts were abruptly tainted, according to the auction.

Analyst: Wii Will Beat PS3 In GH III Sales

N.Revolution - November 6, 2007

Submitted by Just_Ben (112) at 3:31AM PST on November 8, 2007

According to Jesse Divnich, analyst for The simExchange, the Nintendo Wii version is predicted to outsell the PlayStation 3 version by a two-to-one margin when all is said and done. "The prediction market’s expectations imply that Wii consumers prefer originality over conformity, innovation over similarity, and more importantly, titles that are just simply fun to play," he recently opined.

Guitar Hero causes increase in digital song sales

Gamespot - November 21, 2007

Submitted by Vulcanis (2220) at 4:20PM PST on November 24, 2007

With more than 70 songs in Guitar Hero III: Legends of Rock and 1.4 million copies of the game sold in the US in its first six days on sale, there are doubtlessly a wealth of people being introduced to new songs by the game. Apparently a significant chunk of those gamers like what they're hearing, because Ars Technica is reporting that a number of tracks included in the game have seen their sales skyrocket on digital music services like iTunes.

Gamespot Review 8.0/10

Gamespot - October 29, 2007

Good -The best tracklist of any Guitar Hero game to date -Lots of master tracks from the original bands and artists -Online play is a fantastic addition -Higher difficulty level ensures experienced players won't get bored quickly. The Bad -Higher difficulty level ensures most people's arms will fall off halfway through the expert career -Battle mode and boss battles aren't interesting additions -A heavy dose of in-game advertising.

IGN Review: 8.6/10.0 Great!

IGN - October 29, 2007

Submitted by rikitikitik (288) at 11:44PM PST on October 29, 2007

The title's first foray in a Nintendo console definitely holds up to the versions released on its more capable contemporaries according to the review. The lack of downloadable content is a downer, however, but what online mode the game has definitely improves the game from its previous iterations. "... Wii owners shouldn’t hesitate one bit to pick this one up, as it’s the best in the series, and a must-have for any music lover."
