Mario and Sonic at the Olympic Games, has continued to sell well in the United Kingdom - mainly due to DS version. Last week it moved back to the number one place on the sales charts - pushing Devil May Cry back to number 2.

Mario & Sonic nears 2m in the UK

MCV - December 30, 2008

Mario & Sonic At The Olympic Games is creeping towards two million sales in the UK – and is still flying out of stores over a year after it was released. Sega has told MCV that lifetime sales currently stand at nearly 1.3 million on Wii and 460,000 on DS. From the sounds of the article they expect this to keep on going. Looks like I was wrong to bug out at 6.5m / 3.5m :-)

Mario and Sonics' debut as a duo fails to earn them a spot on the medal stand. I find our forecast (2M+) hard to believe with a low quality game in front of the stellar Galaxy

Miyamoto hints at 1:1 swordplay

IGN - July 12, 2007

Submitted by Laoldar (182) at 1:34PM PST on July 12, 2007

IGN recently asked famous Nintendo producer Shigeru Miyamoto whether or not the publisher had thought about internally developing a sword fighting game with one-to-one controls - something Wii fans have been clamoring for - and he hinted that some talks had taken place. In fact, judging by the phrasing of his response, Nintendo may already have a game underway. "We haven't announced anything, so I can't speak about any particulars, but we do have a lot of ideas about how we could potentially use the Wii remote for something like that," Miyamoto told us. He also pointed to Mario & Sonic at the Olympic Games as a project that may potentially include such a feature. "There will be some fencing in Mario & Sonic at the Olympics. I don't know if I'm supposed to say that, so if I'm not, I'm very sorry, SEGA," he said, laughing.

The Sega published Wii-exclusive title claims a personal best weekly sales figure, up 39% on last week, making it far and away the best performing Wii game over any 7-day period. Sega’s All Formats gold medal win can be seen as ‘wind assisted’ due to it being a major part of several Wii retailer bundles. The All Formats Top 5 is very competitive this week with just 8,000 units separating ‘Mario and Sonic’ at No1 and ‘FIFA 08’ at No5.

1Up Review: 6.0/10 Average

Mario & Sonic at the Olympic Games is a step-up from Wii Sports and Wii Play but it feels like just another mini-game compilation. Multiplayer is fun but the lack of options is a bit debilitating. "It's enjoyable -- and to be honest, more fun than I expected -- but it's not quite the evolution of Wii Sports we've been looking for."

From the looks of it this seems to be a well rounded list of playable characters to make the game enjoyable.

Review 8/10, lots of praise

"play as your own Miis which makes it the Wii Sports 2 we've been waiting for. There's not the depth of tennis, boxing, and golf. But when it's your face on characters stumbling over hurdles, passing batons in the relay and stabbing each other with pointy metal sticks, the Olympics really comes alive. Bigger and better than Wii Play. It's more fun with friends than Mario Strikers Charged."
