The new character Hilda stands out from other characters because she wields a short sword and spear at the same time, making her adept at both long range strikes and short range combos.

"GI: One of the main features in Soulcalibur is the weapon-based combat. Are you thinking about incorporating projectiles at all in Soulcalibur IV?" "Sasaki: We’ve thought about it, of course, and in II, Link, from the GameCube version, could use the bow and arrow as well as throw bombs. It’s not like there’s a rule that we’re not going to do it, it’s just that it has to match a particular character and fits in well with the Soulcalibur gameplay and atmosphere."

GI gets some answers from project soul

"How different are the returning characters’ movesets going to be in Soulcalibur?" Sasaki said "the way the game is played overall will be different, attack and defense and strategy-wise. So, that alone will change the gameplay feel a lot. but that new system will change basic gameplay and will change quite a bit. GI asked if counters were going to be put into the game. Sasaki said "Not exactly. What we are talking about, we can’t go into it any more."

Soul Calibur IV to Run at 60 FPS, Posibbly 1080p support

1up.com - June 13, 2007

The latest issue of Famitu brings us a few new details about Soulcalibur IV before EGM drops the real bomb next month. For the hardcore: the game will run at 60FPS and they're currently considering supporting 1080P resolutions -- but it isn't confirmed. Additionally, the story of Soul Calibur IV will be a continuation of Soul Calibur III, with a twist. Once, a man became a hero using the sword Soul Edge, but his son stole it from him for evil and ends up dying during battle. The hero (father) out of grief, decides to make Soul Calibur. This aspect will apparently will become a key to Soulcalibur 4's story.

The XBLA edition of Soul Calibur will be based on the Dreamcast edition of the title. Includes: HD resolution, featuring all of the standard arcade, training, story and survival modes. Though online leaderboards will be available, only the original game's local offline multiplayer is planned for inclusion. Expected to arrive this summer, most likely in advance of the July 29 release of Soul Calibur IV.

The recent trailer seems to indicate destructible body armor and clothes. Clothing will become torn and can apparently be ripped off (probably only to an extent, so don't get too excited).

Soul Calibur IV Hands-On

We got our first look at the multiplatform fighter in motion earlier this year at the Tokyo Game Show but hadn't had the chance to try it until today. However, news of the playable demo was nearly overshadowed by the announcement that Namco and LucasArts have teamed up, with the result that Darth Vader and Yoda will appear as console-exclusive playable characters.
