Midway Games has today confirmed that Unreal Tournament 3 for PlayStation 3 will hit store shelves across Europe on Friday February 22. The imminent availability of the PS3 version across Europe follows a successful worldwide launch of the PC version and PS3 version in North America. Including the North American PS3 release the game has shipped over 1.2 million units worldwide and this figure is sure to rise thanks to European sales.

Unreal Tournament 3 has been approved by SCEA and has been released to North American manufacturing. and it could show up in stores as early as December 11th but more likely toward the middle of that week.

The changes are primarily to reflect Midway's decision to release Stranglehold for the PLAYSTATION® 3 computer entertainment system in the fourth quarter rather than the third quarter, the expected movement of Unreal Tournament 3 for the PLAYSTATION 3 system into the first quarter of fiscal 2008, and lower expected sales of BlackSite: Area 51 primarily due to the adverse impact of the split shipment between the Xbox 360 and the PLAYSTATION 3 system, with the European version of BlackSite: Area 51 for the PLAYSTATION 3 system shifting into the first quarter of 2008.

Midway has confirmed to Eurogamer that Unreal Tournament 3 on PlayStation 3 will be out here on 22nd February.

"The PlayStation 3 version of Epic Games' Unreal Tournament III has long been crowed about as the first game on Sony's console to support user created content, such as mods and maps. Today, owners of UTIII have their first taste of homebrewed PS3 add-ons, as FileFront presents the game's first player-created map, DM-Shrine, for download. The deathmatch map is designed for 2-6 players and was built by 23 year-old Thomas Browett of Nottingham."
