I think we all already suspected it but it took the Rocket Scientest Pachter to say it. The 360 GTA fans have lost out because the PS3 is to damn complicated.

From the same article although added as an update.
In a conference call, Take-Two's Strauss Zelnick spoke of the challenge involved with working on two relatively new platforms simultaneously, stating that the "delay was essential to ensure the quality of GTA IV."
I think a reasonable assumption would be to assume that the PS3 which is more difficult to code for would be seen as the culprit, of course it could be as you suggest be design goals but unlike you I would suspect the latter.

I know Pachter is saying that, but I'm just noting that he's guessing. Only 3 weeks ago, Take-Two was saying this would be out in less than 3 months...now it's delayed by half a year? I don't see how the PS3 suddenly became difficult to code for. And, again, several multi-plat games haven't had those issues...and they've stated before that the PS3 is not getting any unique content so it should be a straight port.
The delay could be caused by their goals for the entire game (360 included). They are adding in several features that are new to the GTA series and this could easily be caused by that rather than the platform it will be on (ask Spore).[ Oracle ] [ Level 21 ] [ Rank: 182 ]bids

I am not saying Mr Pachter is correct but if you read the article he is suggesting that the PS3 version was proving more difficult than they first thought and because of a possible contractual obligation this has caused the delay for both platforms.[ Oracle ] [ Level 30 ] [ Rank: 60 ]bids

I know it's possible, I just doubt it's likely. To blame the PS3 without any reason to is just lazy.

There was to be no new content on the PS3 version and other games have managed a simultaneous release for both systems without delays (Darkness did it, Stranglehold is doing so this month).
There's no reason to assume that the PS3 is the reason for the delay. Why would GTA run across problems that other multi-plat games don't?
