Well, we have to wait and see, basically. I think the Halo fans have or will buy a 360 for Halo three. Not to forget that Halo sold 4.5 Million (NA) while Halo2 sold 6.5 Million, indicating that the halo fanbase has increased and its the last Halo, and the first on the 360. Halo 2 wasn't exactly a slouch for advertising either and was welcomed with gushing "Best game ever!" covers from most gaming magazines. As much hype as Halo 3 has, I can't see how it will magically make 360 owners appear out of nowhere.
We only have about 65% of the install base. People can (and do) make the argument that Halo 3 will move consoles...fair enough. But to reach the numbers we're predicting on this site, we're looking at 45% of 360 owners to buy Halo 3 in its first 2 weeks (on a sidenote, this site is also predicting a very modest increase of 200,000 units sold for the 360 for this launch). Such an attachment rate is a hefty increase from Halo 2 (roughly near 30%).

Even the basic version of Halo 3 is a 20% markup over Halo 2 and that's not even getting into the limited edition (40%) or the Legendary edition (160%).
Given that all 3 versions are much more expensive than Halo 2, they could sell fewer copies at launch and still put out a glowing press release about the "most successful launch ever".
Given that they're launching Halo 3 to a N.American install base of 7 million as opposed to the 11 million of Halo 2, I think it'll be difficult to move the same amount of units.[ Oracle ] [ Level 21 ] [ Rank: 182 ]bids

Halo 3 isnt going to make Xbox 360 owners out of no where, but many people have held off on buying an Xbox 360 until the next Halo was released. I know some people decided to buy earlier as good games like Dead Rising, Lost Planet, and Rainbow Six were released. But I still know of a few people who have not purchased an Xbox 360 yet, but want to get one for Halo 3. And I wouldnt really consider those purchases out of no where because it is already a pre planned purchase. Just like there people waiting to buy both the Xbox 360 and PS3 for when GTA 4 finally comes out.
