Updated Dreamcast Trademark Sparks 'Dreamcast 2'...

"Could the Dreamcast be making a comeback? Sega has updated its Dreamcast trademark, but what the publisher's real intent may be is not yet known. Fans would love to see a Dreamcast 2, of course."

RE: Updated Dreamcast Trademark Sparks 'Dreamcast 2'...I really doubt that Sega would try to bring out a Dreamcast 2, but there is a better possibility that Sega will use the term for "a branding strategy" like Laoldar mentioned below. If there does end up being a branding strategy, then I think it would make sense for Sega to use it to release downloads of Dreamcast titles on the Xbox 360 and PS3 (because these consoles have HDDs).
In the end, we probably will never know ahead of time until they decide to use the brand for something or they may just end up holding onto the trademark just to "protect themselves" as Jesse2050 stated below.[ Oracle ] [ Level 20 ] [ Rank: 294 ]bids

They could be doing so in order to put out a line of Dreamcast games for a new console (as in re-releasing Dreamcast titles). Sega could even use the term as part of a branding strategy for a series of games, peripherals, etc.
The article talks about games being on the X-Box/Sony systems, but given how cozy Sega is with Nintendo lately, I think it's far more likely that any products would be for the Wii/DS.[ Oracle ] [ Level 21 ] [ Rank: 182 ]bids

But of course, companies do this stuff all the time just to protect themselves. The cost is nothing to trademark it, it's like registering a website.
Sega is not making any type of comeback, they simply just don't have the resources anymore.

What would be cool is if Sega could rerelease the Dreamcast hardware in a new form, ala DC Slim at a cheap price as well as its best titles at $15-20 each. I would buy it and so many of those. But that's my own pipedream. I think they will probably release DC DLC games & possibly some retail ports of games or a DC Collection or two available at retail.
