RE: Assassin's Creed success may fend off EA takeoverWhile I understand the importance of capitalism and the desire for any company to be sellable, I think one of the worst things that can happen to the gaming market today is for a major distributor to be taken over by EA, to say nothing of personal feelings about either company. A healthy competition is required in order for companies to want to continue to push the envelope. If anything, it makes Ubisoft even more appetizing. Any extra premium they pay, it is being accounted for by actual value. In many ways, that is depressing. Since the onset of the major U.S. gaming companies within the last decade or so, we have seen a sharp increase in the quality of games marketed to the Americans. Companies such as Capcom, who were been in the 90's, have had trouble adapting in areas such as translation and dubbing. I believe most people just won't stand for a poor translation now when they can either get it from an American distributor, or from people who actually care about their localization such as Hideo Kojima's MGS group. That's why I feel so strongly about keeping the US market open and competitive.
