Toshiba waved the white flag in the home movie war, giving up on its HD DVD format. "We carefully assessed the long-term impact of continuing the so-called 'next-generation format war' and concluded that a swift decision will best help the market develop," Toshiba President and CEO Atsutoshi Nishida said in a statement.

HD-DVD was doomed after WB went Blu-Ray Exclusive.
Wal-Mart and Netflix were the final nails on HD-DVD's coffin, it was becoming more and more harder for it to rise back up, even though Blu-Ray was getting a lot of support.
So we bid thee farewell, HD-DVD. Don't forget to call, and say hi to Betamax for us and tell VHS why it has not called in a while.
