All vehicles in Spore are user created, so you can't expect the level of detail that you'd find in, say, a Command and Conquer game. I think Spore is aiming to be playable on a wide range of systems, so you're not going to see cutting-edge detail.
This screen shot does not compare well graphically to other RTS games. I had thought Starcraft 2 graphics were a bit weak...are these screenshots of the final engine?
