Everybody clamoring for a cheap Blu-ray player now that the format war is over might wanna bide their time with a sweet DVD upconverter—the $200-player Blu-ray cavalry is at least a year away, according to Sony Electronics CEO Stan Glasgow, who we talked to today in New York. "I don't think $200 is going to happen this year. Next year $200 could happen. We'll be at a $300 rate this year. $299 will happen this year."

I was thinking something along similar lines, except I think sony might get away with 350 for this year... then again I'm still expecting a price cut in both first and second half of the year so that would lead to 300 since I don't think they'll be doing 25$ cuts... This might be reinforced by the rumored MS pricecut for europe which I expect will draw a sony response in 2-3 months at the most[ Oracle ] [ Level 20 ] [ Rank: 444 ]bids

That is unless PS3 takes over at current pricepoints, but MS will likely retaliate with a price cut, which would again push Sony to price cut.
I still expect PS3 & 360 (Pro) to have a $299 SKU available this year. I predict the following to happen by the end of the year at the latest point:
PS3 80gb (bundle w/ MGS4 or later PS3 title) $399.
PS3 40gb (perhaps w/game or movie) $299
360 Arcade $229-$250
360 Pro $279-$299
360 Elite $399-$379
Wii $250 (Nintendo won't budge this year)
