It's public knowledge that Sony may have dragged their feet when it came time to wheeling and dealing with Rockstar, and they paid a pretty big price for that mistake -- GTA IV is now multiplatform. But the past is the past, and it can no longer be undone. That doesn't mean, however, that you can't downplay what the competition has to offer. According to SCEA's VP of Product Marketing, Scott Steinberg, the episodic content offered to Xbox 360 owners is nothing to get worked up about:

im not poor but im certainly not rich either. i dont get any more money than anyone else i know im just a bit more sensible with it.
i get what's called Education Maintenance Allowance (EMA) which is £30 per week for turning up to all my lessons as basically an incentive to stay on to higher education and do well. Its meant to be spent on learning materials but theres no need. That gets put away in to my bank account for me to spend on bigger purchases like my HDTV which i got last year and the PS3 i might buy, and it can rapidly grow when you include end of term bonuses. That really allows me to buy what i want as i also have a part time job which gives me money to spend going and out etc.
I guess it's because im only 17 and so still live at home so atm all income i have is disposable but when i go to University im certain things will be different :)[ Oracle ] [ Level 22 ] [ Rank: 150 ]bids

There are great ones like Warhawk but there are others which are bad. COD4 was not without it's problems, neither was Vegas.
Xbox Live is not perfect and the competition has certainly caught up but I still feel that most gamers who are serious about online realise it's still the best platform for it at present.
I still see the PS3 stock as the more over-valued because I think people have over-estimated the number of PS2 owners who have been waiting for GTA:IV to pick up a PS3. I'm sure there is an element of that but one thing that is undeniable about the 360 right now is that it's got a fantastic library, much better than the other platforms (Nintendo IP asides) and that a lot of people really into GTA:IV will also be a) really into games and b) realise the 360 is the lead platform with the exclusive content and hence will already have picked the machine up.
The 360 install base is rabid for games, that's already been shown. It won't top Halo 3 but it's one of the few titles that will come close to it.[ Oracle ] [ Level 21 ] [ Rank: 291 ]bids

Oh yes you are, my girlfriend studies and can't even afford an Wii. I studied and at that time, it was hard for me even to get simpler things, before I jobbed at a good payed job. I agree, XBL is not a free service like PSN. I figure I'm already paying for the service, so looking forward at my option for GTA4, the 360 version makes sense.

BTW DLC is available to Silver Memberships which are free so you dont have to pay $40 if you dont want to play online, but yes the DLC itself will likely cost $10 each. i expect Rockstar will dish out fairly large chunks of extras in them to keep the community happy though.
Im only 17 and am in college and considering purchasing a PS3 to go alongside my 360 ONLY for MGS4 and maybe GT5. It will set me back around £330 ($650) just to get the console and two games so its quite a bit but something i am seriously considering as i loved the series' on the PS2. So spending $400 on one game isnt out of the question in my case (and im not rich by any standards) but maybe i do not represent the majority.[ Oracle ] [ Level 22 ] [ Rank: 150 ]bids

So you think you are the average? Free online would let me pick up the PS3 version (or will, if it does not come to the PC). But I am not the average. The average ... ah well, We will see, if the collage kids will buy either of those big investments just to play GTA. I mean its a big game, but 400$ one way or another (Premium + one year online) + the cost of the game is pretty much, if you ask me. So much even I am not willing to invest it, and wait that the price drops.
In order of the DLC, you have to pay 50$ for online (right?) and most likely another 30$ for all 3 items (10$ each seems like a price). That is much, you know?[ Oracle ] [ Level 21 ] [ Rank: 112 ]bids
