Microsoft's Gamerscore Blog updated today with information Fable II will not have the ability for online co-operative play at launch.
Microsoft's Sara "DirtyDiva" Nicholson is mention that the update should be available within the first week of the game's launch. The glowing orbs that represent your friends in-game will still show, however, and you'll be able to trade with those players right away.

IIRC, core gamers are a BIG percentage of X360 userbase. Their existence in significant # is the major reason why X360 games sales are :
- very front loaded (core gamers usually purchase game on launch day)
- consistently high (purchase at least 1 game every month)
- have good tie ratio (against user base size).
Is there any specific mention in an article that Fable 2 sales will have "small percentage of core gamers vs. total sales" ?
Well, regarding whether it is dealbreaker or not, everyone have their own opinion. But reading at game forum, it seems that quite a few peopel consider it "dealbreaker". Of course, this is anecdotal stories, but based on "anecdotal stories" of Bully X360, I got significant profit from early short of that stock. It is up to every player whether they wanted to rely on anecdotal stories or not.
Lastly, I noticed a downbid on mrahaju's comment. Giving downbid to comment that you don't agree (I am not accusing segexsdx of doing this, I am just speaking in a general term) is a good way to "kill" discussion, so please think twice before anyone downbid a comment.

i highly doubt that the initial lack of coop would seriously impact sales. highly doubt. the only people who know about that are the core gamers who make up a small percentage of total sales. also, it's not a dealbreaker.
if your logic was to be taken, then little big planet should also be downgraded because it lacks the online cooperative creation mode at launch.
the same would hold true for battlefield: bad company. that game also promised conquest mode at a later date but yet that game sold quite well.[ Oracle ] [ Level 21 ] [ Rank: 148 ]bids

I have a feeling that this game will be a disappointment. How can they go gold if they haven't finished the game, especially the very important online co-op ? X360 is famous for it's online capabilities, and not having it on day 1, and requiring buyer to download it, is ridiculous. Especially IF the update was later than promised.

'Core gamer' is such a vague term, you and sagexsdx could be talking about different sets of people.
On topic, I agree with sagexsdx - I don't think this is a deal breaker. Fable was entirely single player and the sequel is still primarily a single player game. I think most people with any interest in it know that. Of the people who will even see this news - mainly forum posters - I doubt many are going to rush out and cancel their preorders just because they'll have to wait a few days to play online co-op.
I'm not seeing the same anecdotal evidence as you. Most people seem pretty indifferent to the news.
(Oh, and I totally agree about the downbidding of comments.)
