Robert Bowling, community manager for Infinity Ward, has detailed online user figures for its blockbuster title Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare.

There are some other figures relating to the amount of achievements earned from those users not mentioned in the article.
* 71.1%, or 7,111,508 people have completed F.N.G.
* 68.8%, or 6,886,509 people have completed Cargo Ship.
* 46.5%, or 5,654,643 people have beaten the game on any difficulty.
* 2.8%, or 283,632 people have completed Airplane on Veteran difficulty.
Just to add those into consideration.
Also don't forget that this is individual live accounts, many people have multiple and have played on multiple accounts.

Yeah, 10 Million is a good milestone for press release. So it might not reached 10 M, yet (and might never will, since COD:WAW is already out). So, what you think the GLS should be, and how do you arrive at that figure ? If they've sold 10M you could pretty much guarantee that they would say they've sold 10M. They wouldn't miss out on touting great PR opportunity like that. There is a reason why they are throwing out xbox live connectivity numbers instead of sales.[ Oracle ] [ Level 30 ] [ Rank: 4 ]bids

You raised a good point. I forgot that there are significant rental market and used-game market in US. It make it difficult to predict things.
Let's see : 15 Million LIVE user vs. 28 Million X360 userbase, which means online is about 55% of userbase. Of course, COD4 with its excellent multiplayer through LIVE feature would have higher than normal % of online player. This is the reason I think only 10% - 20% of them are not online.
On the other hand, I believe that the excellent multiplayer (evidence by the fact that COD4 are almost always in X360 Top 10 weekly figure, up to COD5 release) means that the factor of rent and second hand are minimized (if people are still playing it 1 year after release, they wouldn't sell it, and they also would buy the actual game after renting it first). All in all, I believe that those factors neutralized each other (10% - 20% of online players are from renting and used game), so I believe that the GLS should be 10 Million.

One thing I missed :
"Now keep in mind, these are only players on Xbox 360 (who have also connected to Xbox Live at least once)," he explained. "So there are more than this playing Call of Duty 4, we just can't track them."
If we figure that there are about 10% of COD4 X360 who NEVER go online (I believe 10% is quite a small figure, the actual figure could be even bigger (20%) or smaller (5%)), then GLS of COD4 X360 should be 11 Million, which is still quite far from current 8.7 Million price (went up since I go long in this stock since my previous post). I didn't drove it up higher since I need to have some margin to put short order for Wii Dec 08. Once Dec 08 came, if the price is still significantly below 1 Million, I will invest more.
Anybody think I am making a mistake in my analysis ? I am asking this since I am surprised that there are 4 people who upbid this article before me, and yet the price barely moved (only +3%)[ Oracle ] [ Level 30 ] [ Rank: 14935 ]bids

Don't forget the amount of people who have brought this game second hand, rented it, or borrowed it off friends. I'm certain that it's a very high number, although of course you have to factor in the amount of people who brought it and have not gone online. It's a difficult one, and one that I won't be dabling in, but yes if anything it is undervalued.[ Oracle ] [ Level 22 ] [ Rank: 150 ]bids

Notice that they said players. Players != sales. If two people sign-in on the same box or have multiple accounts for whatever reason that counts as 2 players.
