There's no question that Halo 3 is going to be big. Several weeks ago, a rumor surfaced that GameStop had already collected an outlandish 4 million preorders for the game. Today, a quartet of Goldman-Sachs analysts released their own projections for the game's September 25 launch, with numbers nearly as gaudy.

VGCharts has Halo 2 shipping about 7.9 million copies worldwide total.
That article quotes the analysts with saying that Halo 2 sold 7.5 million in the first quarter it was out. So it only sold .4 million since that first quarter? Seems unlikely.
Also, their prediction seems to be based solely on attachment rate. Since Halo 2 sold to roughly 1/3rd of consoles at the time they're claiming that Halo 3 will do the same. It's interesting that their analysis seems more shallow than what people do on here.
