@Joe80, The google link you provided only point out that Pachter "believes" that Wii Fit is diverted from US to Europe. It is NOT a Nintendo statement.
I have lost count on how many times Pachter predicted / analyze things, and it turned out wrong. Like PS3 price cut etc. I would consider this "believes" as another one case where Pachter is wrong.
Additional consideration : Article was dated early Jun 2008 (June 2 and June 3). By that time, even NPD May 08 is not out yet, and he already predicted that Wii Fit was diverted to Europe, even though later NPD data showed 687K Wii Fit sold for May 08. That figure is only eclipsed by Nov 08, Dec 08 and Jan 09 #.
I don't agree with staggered launches. As a gamer, I would prefer to play a game as soon as possible. I don't like waiting 6 months or even 1 year for translation from Japanese to English, so I prefer staggered launch even if it means supply constrain. I prefer region free games, which is another problem Wii had.
I think you didn't differentiate between "intentional supply constrain to built hype" vs. "unintentional supply constrain because production capacity is not enough, and Nintendo are too conservative to increase their production capacity sharply just to get bigger short term sales while having problem down the road when demand dwindle".
