Home for PS3 could be out before October... Why? Because the boxart for Bioshock on PS3 has the Home logo on it... This is what Ripten believes here, make sure to scroll below the boxart.
I think you are correct in many ways. I don't believe it was Sony's fault concerning the Metal Gear issue, but as a gamer, it could be viewed as part of the 'Sony Experience', so it could get part of the fallout, whether deserved or not.
I don't think anyone is buying a ps3 because of home, but it appears to keep getting pushed back further everytime it gets close. It could end up being the rainbow, with no end in sight. Most of what I hear, is that some are intrigued by the idea, but very unsure of how useful it will be, or how long it will hold before becoming boring. Of course it's hard to say, without seeing it in action. It cannot trump the Achievement system of the 360. Who's going to go back to play 2 years worth of games to get their 'trophies'?
@SickDaddy,For clarification of your comment I don't believe SONY had anything to do with Konami's issues.
As for HOME being an issue...I don't think it is. If SONY gets it running well it will be a source of income to them and a selling point but right now I'd be astonished if anyone said they were buying a PS3 on the promise of HOME coming out.
With the recent debacle over the beta of Metal Gear Solid and the further delay of home, will it set Sony back again as far as gamers morale is concerned?
Is home really happening, or just an attempt to soothe the gaming crowd whenever something comes up in a "But... home is on it's way!!" kind of way?
I don't know the reliability of this site but they claim "New sales figures from the NPD group show Blu-ray taking nearly 93 percent of the market in the week ending January 12. Compare these figures to the week before Warner’s announcement, when there was a near 50-50 split between the two competing formats.
It should be noted that the above sales figures do not include sales of Sony’s PlayStation 3 console or the Xbox 360 HD-DVD add-on drive. Considering that PS3 sales have also been on the rise, things are looking great for Blu-ray."
I would have to agree. Nintendo has taken it easy for the first year of the Wii and 3rd party developers have been slow to bring something interesting to the Wii (though I personally have over a dozen titles).
I think we'll see a big second wind go into it this fall and into next year...Mario Galaxy, Smash Bros Brawl, Wii Fit, Mario Kart will show the strength of Nintendo's truly big guns.
For the big picture, this may also be a sign that Japan has become a handheld nation. The Wii will be the top console, but might not be able to approach the level of the DS (likely). Japan has a history of favouring handheld titles...the console games only begin to appear at spots 10/11 in the Japanese all-time sales.
I think its a lack of demand. It's been under 30K for a few weeks now, if I recall correctly. I think hardware in general is down in Japan (except PSP of course). Wii's getting Super Mario Galaxy at the start of November, so we can expect sales to bounce back up then. And Wii Fit is set for a 2007 release
