"The fine folks over at Radical were gracious enough to give us an exclusive look at some of the tricks up Alex’s hoodie sleeve. All of his offensive, defensive and sensory powers are used to help the gamer make their way through the New York City setting in one of two ways. “Deceive or Destroy” is what they’re calling it, and those two words exemplify what the game is all about ..."
"One of the key ingredients for making open-world games great is choice. Its almost a truism, though it only makes sense that if you present the gamer with New York City as an environment, they will want as much freedom to operate in that city as they would in real life. We dont like punishing players for their choices, there is no wrong choice in good game design since its our task to make every game session enjoyable regardless of paths taken."
One of the best things about the annual Game Developers Conference is the opportunity afforded to those of us covering it to get some one on one time with actual game developers. Just like when we sat down with Eric Holmes of Radical Entertainment, the Lead Designer of the impressive looking, open-world action game Prototype who showed us the game in action, and talked to us about some of the finer points of making games.
Well known for developing open world games such as the well received The Incredible Hulk: Ultimate Destruction and Scarface: The World is Yours, Radical Entertainment's Tim Bennison and Eric Holmes explained that when they had been offered the chance to do a new IP with open world next-gen action adventure game Prototype they "wanted to do was give the player something new."
Sierra Entertainment announced today that Prototype will feature the voice acting skills of Barry Pepper, Gordon Clapp and Paul Guilfoyle, among others.
Check out tonight's X-Play for a look at actual gameplay from Radical Entertainment's mutant-takes-Manhattan sandbox game, Prototype. They've sent along a short teaser, tucked away after the break, or catch the real deal at 8PM ET/PT.
There's something undeniably cool about being a guy with super powers. With the success of Microsoft's brilliant Crackdown, gamers are definitely ready for another open-world adventure and Prototype looks just the ticket.
"More gameplay per square foot than you've ever seen;" that's the tagline developer Radical Entertainment used to describe Prototype at a recent press event.
The latest entry in the free-roaming blast-em-genre has been revealed in the pages of UK Official Xbox Magazine.
Dubbed Prototype, and from Scarface dev Radical, it'll put you in the demented shoes of Alex Mercer, a genetically engineered hoody who can, among other things, slash baddies in half and climb up the side of skyscrapers.
Put him in the middle of a bustling New York...
