THQ has reported a loss of USD 27.2 million for the first quarter of the fiscal year, up from USD 9.3 million the previous year. Net sales for the three months ended June 30 were USD 137.6 million, up from USD 104.5 million last year, with the publisher highlighting Wall-E and Big Beach Sports as strong sellers.

THQ has announced third quarter fiscal 2008 financial results, showing net income down 75 per cent to USD 15.5 million. The company reported net income of USD 62.1 million for the same period last year. Sales, however, were up 7 per cent to a record USD 509.6 million, driven primarily by WWE SmackDown vs. Raw 2008 which sold 5 million copies.

According to this, Relic’s planning on launching Company of Heroes in China as an “‘experience for online gamers where players will be able to build their character up from private to general through new multiplayer cooperative missions, gameplay modes, and player-versus-player combat’ in a persistent RTS. Presumably, they have a quirky pay-to-play plan to match.”

THQ Announces All Star Cheer Squad For Wii Balance Board/DS

THQ have announced a new Wii and Nintendo DS exclusive game named All Star Cheer Squad. Described as the first ever cheerleading video game, it is scheduled for release this autumn and marks THQ’s “first original property created specifically for girls”. The game will also make use of the Wii Balance Board controller, to be bundled with the forthcoming Wii Fit. The game will be the second third party game to make use of the peripheral after Namco Bandai’s We Ski.
