Guitar Hero III sales past 5 Million

Playfuls.com - January 8, 2008

Submitted by Mushashi (5) at 10:48AM PST on January 8, 2008

In less than 3 months since launch, the game managed to reach an audience of more than 5 million people worldwide, the American publisher announced. Guitar Hero III: Legends of Rock features legendary Guns'n'Roses guitarist Slash on its cover, accompanied by fictional guitarists Judy Nails on the left and Lars Ümlaüt on the right. Unlike previous installments in the series, GH III's 60 songs are all master tracks and the game allows for online play too.

All GH3 Versions Going Wireless

PrimoTech - September 23, 2007

Though the PS3 and Wii versions were long ago confirmed to use wireless guitar controllers, RedOctane has announced that the PS2 Kramer controller and the 360 Les Paul will both be wireless as well, despite the PS2 not having a built-in wireless system and the 360's wireless being proprietary technology.

Wal-Mart Version of GH III Comes With Old Guitars

Kotaku - October 28, 2007

Submitted by Kemkle33 (709) at 11:50AM PST on October 28, 2007

Apparently, folks who have purchased Guitar Hero III from Wal-Mart are reporting that the game comes with the old guitars rather than the new ones. This problem seems to extend to both the PS and Xbox 360 versions of the game. So, if you were planning on picking up the game from Wal-Mart and you really want that wireless Les Paul, you may want to consider going to another retailer or at the very least, be sure to check the front of the box before you purchase.

It may not have been the biggest entertainment launch event of the year, or however Halo 3's launch was marketed by the team at Microsoft, but Activision's haul for the launch week of Guitar Hero III: Legends of Rock was more than respectable.

Guitar Hero 3 Online Hands-on

IGN - October 5, 2007

At a recent Activision event, we got to try out the online play for the Xbox 360, Wii and PS3 versions and found just what we were hoping for across all three platforms: It's smooth and it rocks. We also found that the online game for Guitar Hero III doesn't begin and end with a simple head to head match. There's more on the web than just leaderboards. You'll also be able to personalize your profile, create an online band similar to a clan, collect groupies for meeting specific goals, challenge other bands, and compete in online tournaments.

Analysts: Activision to carry October sales

GameSpot - November 12, 2007

"Trio of industry watchers project 50 to 60 percent software sales spike on Guitar Hero III" The game braught in $115 million in it's first week of sales alone. This not only has obvios implications for the long stock of the game, but I would say that this indicates that now would be a good time to by October Futures.

"Fans of the rap rock band may not be 'crawling in their skin' but they'll be more than satisfied with No More Sorrow. There are also tracks from Mastadon and The Used in the song pack."

Following the Motörhead set earlier this month, more Guitar Hero III downloadable content lands on the PS3 and Xbox 360 today, with the three-song Isle of Wight Track Pack now available. The pack features "Problems [live at Brixton] by The Sex Pistols, "Shoot the Runner" by Kasabian, and "I Predict a Riot" by Kaiser Chiefs. The set costs 500 Microsoft Points, or $6.25 USD on PS3. For a taste, check out the above video for Kasabian's "Shoot the Runner." It's kinda rockin'.

IGN Review 8.9/10

IGN - October 28, 2007

Submitted by Animate (241) at 9:00PM PST on October 28, 2007

"a safe first entry by Neversoft. They didn't rock the boat too much and stuck with the tried and true formula. Soundtrack is fantastic & new online additions are going to take GH community to the next level. Hard to argue with any of gameplay. Everything outside of the game itself is in need of an overhaul as the presentation is growing stale. It's hard to ask that of a developer's first foray into an established franchise, but see room for improvement."
