While so many other companies are laying off employees, it might surprise you to hear that Funcom is actually hiring for Age of Conan. As announced in a forum post yesterday by AoC's Game Director Craig "Silirrion" Morrison, Funcom is hiring for three positions currently: Flash/UI Designer, Environmental Artist and AI Designer.

Funcom employee fired for cybersex with player in AoC

Destructoid - August 10, 2008

An AoC player summoned a GM and convinced them to engage in a little "role-playing". The GM took the player to a more secluded portion of the game world and proceeded to describe a sexual scenario in graphic detail. Funcom released the following statement: We are aware of this matter, and necessary measures have been taken against them. We have clear guidelines for all employees in Funcom, and if the guidelines are broken there are consequences

List of post-merger servers for Age of Conan released

Massively - January 9, 2009

Submitted by BrotherE (82) at 7:21PM PST on January 9, 2009

We've known for some time now that Age of Conan's server list would be shrinking. After some fits and starts, the successful merger of Bloodspire and Hyperborea has set the stage for the wholesale conglomeration of the Age of Conan server farm. The official forums are carrying the final list of post-merger servers, and the US list stands at a svelte six remaining gameworlds.

CES 2007: Age of Conan on DX10

IGN - January 8, 2007

Age of Conan made a splash at the Consumer Electronics Show by being one of two games, Crysis being the other, to be shown using Microsoft's new and much touted DirectX 10 for Vista. The online action RPG for PC and Xbox 360, though only running on PC here, was a great way to showcase the new Vista platform with some stunning DX10 visuals.

New Game Director Craig Morrison calls "No retreat, no surrender!" as FunCom's barbaric MMO charges into the future. "Everybody" knows that MMO launches quickly followed by server merges are often the kiss of death. MMOs are expensive, after all. If a game has so few players that hardware is gathering dust, it makes sense in a for-profit company to pull the plug. The problem with things that "everybody knows," of course, is that they often turn out to be untrue.
