Our source tells us that SCEE President David Reeves took to the stage to discuss the current economic climate and how it shouldn’t affect PlayStation business, though was quick to mention that SCEE will be getting more competitive in price from March 2009 onwards.

This console battle is tough nut for Sony this time round. They have made some basic errors and managed to turn what was considered a shoe in, into what a shareholder might regard as a bit of a disaster.

Couldn't agree more. I'm sure there are some people who wait for price cuts based on rumours but I'm not sure it'll have that much of an impact this Christmas. Sony's problems go a bit deeper than that sadly.
Even a $100 price cut is unlikely to impact the consumers that Microsoft are aiming for with the Arcade SKU (and by the sounds of it, they're getting some traction there). I think if I was Sony, I'd be thinking about just hanging in there till they can get a PSthree style redesign out at a more competitive price.

The problem is if this gets a lot of publicity and it appears that way at the moment it could harm sales (I doubt it will have much of an impact tbh).
Sony's problem is the continuing weak Yen, any price break they have will almost certainly have to factor this in and I think the biggest danger is the price cut in March (assuming) may not be substantial enough.

Which if true is a curious co-incidence. No smoke without fire. Before this story, if you asked 100 gamers when the next PS3 price cut would be, they would say March 09 when Killzone 2 hits. (Now those desperately clinging on to the notion of a pre-Xmas cut have let it go, mind).
