@welshbloke, Just-in-Time or JIT is usually applicable to manufacturing sector, NOT retail section, especially one that are directly connected to customer (It CAN be applicable to B-to-B retail parts, like sole distributor to distributor or wholesaler to mom and pop shops). From the article : "they don't need to order four weeks' stock, I'm going to order two. I don't want all this inventory" 2 weeks stock are usually not considered JIT. JIT is ideally zero buffer stock, so it is usually 1 day - 1 weeks worth of stocks, just enough for manufacturing. I believe this article is more closely related to increasing inventory turn-over, not JIT.
I really wonder how this new strategy will affect sales #, especially for those games that are famous for having no legs, like X360 games. Will customers who didn't find a game in his usual store willing to either come back a few days later, or go to (probably several) other store to buy it ? If they came back a few days later, they might decide to buy other, newer games. Holiday 09 should be interesting to watch (and predict).
