"If it is, it'd have to be neutered to an M rating."
Hmmm...Intresting. So there's no possible way for Take-Two to appeal the AO on the current game to an M rating without changing the content? Perhaps I read wrong but I thought there was at least a small glimmer of hope that this game may be released as M without any changes.
Oh, and your usage of the word "neutered" made me cringe and laugh at the same time.
I think the bulk of the dust has settled with this game (until we hear something regarding an ESRB appeal), so I'd like to direct attention back to the IPO itself.
There are, simply, two things that can happen: the game is released, or it isn't. If it isn't, then this IPO is worthless. If it is, it'd have to be neutered to an M rating. I think people are going to be aware of that, driving away those who wanted the pure, unadulterated violence the game promised. Others, who may have contemplated the game, will be drawn away by its stigma and history as "the superviolent AO game". Some may be drawn in by morbid curiosity.
All this considered, if this game does get released and does get listed, its IPO should be reduced to 40DKP in my opinion.
Well, this whole scenario has done a good job of showing that I can't predict worth a damn. Banned in UK and Ireland, now a temporary (there's always appeal) AO rating in the US.
Funny how everyone's claiming that the game will be terrible, because "the first one was", and how it's all reliant on shock value. Manhunt 1 got around a 75 average on all platforms. Hardly a terrible game. Think that's just the standard grandstanding, "I can't have it so I never wanted it" that comes from a lot of people.
Perhaps I'm reading too much into IGN's comments about this game being the most over the top voilent game they've ever seen or played. I just kinda assumed that included the first Manhunt.
Adam Savage is one of the Mythbusters. Before some of their stunts, he would give a percentage breakdown of odds of failure or success. Often, it was based on little or nothing beyond intuition, and always had some silly comment in there.
I kinda doubt this will be more violent than the first (hence why the option is so slightly represented), but I think the fact that the player isn't a "bad guy" (former death row inmate in the first, doctor in his own experiment in the second) might mitigate some of the disapproval. Still, it's an even split in many ways and I can't predict much of anything concretely.
Heh, wow. Awesome answer. Sadly I don’t know who Adam Savage is, but I do like his style. Anyway, even though I never thought about breaking it down to percentages, I think it’s likely this game will be more violent than the last. I also believe this game will face a lot of negative press and even possible bans.
I think you're putting a bit too much faith in me, I got to where I am mostly by luck and contributions (and lots of bug finds).
That said, this is a hard one to spot. There are a few ways I see it going, and I'm gonna take the Adam Savage approach because I haven't done it yet and it's funny.
10% chance the game just sucks. In that case, 75 is way too high. 5% chance the game is as violent as the first, but gets even harder censorship than the first. In that case, 75 is still way too high. 20% chance the game is as violent as the first, and is treated to the same censorship. In that case, I think 75 is a touch high, since the first was legally restricted in 5 countries and some are large markets. 20% chance the game is as violent as the first, but get less censorship and passes without notice. Then 75 is about right, maybe a tad high. 20% chance the game is as violent as the first, a huge media frenzy happens, but no serious censorship in most markets. Then 75 is low. 20% chance the game is less violent than its predecessor. In that case 75 is actually a tad low, since if it's less violent it won't get censored widely, and will appeal to those with weaker stomaches. 3% chance the game is super mad gory and gets banned pretty much everywhere. 1% chance Rockstar just doesn't even release it for some reason. 1% chance Jack Thompson gets it banned.
So, I personally would drop it down to 70, but with it where it is now I think it's perfectly fine.
Hey Charron, I'm really interested to know how you think this game will sell on the Wii. Not that you have a crystal ball or anything, but I really do respect your opinion. Do you think 75.00 DKP is a buyable price for this game???
Well, I did what I could, by adding the release dates to the listing. This way it'll show up in the "coming soon" listing, and should more easily appear on the radar, so to speak, especially as launch day creeps closer.
