This stock is way overpriced. It sold just 154,891 in itīs opening week in Japan.
For comparison, Final Fantasy Tactics Advance sold 225,210 in its opening Japanese week, and it went on to sell only 441,926 (see media create or vgchartz). It is typical for a FF game to sell about 50% of its total in its first week, and the fact that Tactics is a port will cause it to drop off even faster. It will sell <300K in Japan total.
According to VGchartz, the original Tactics sold only 44% of its copies outside of Japan. Although this percentage might increase to 50% for the remake, that would only bring its worldwide total to <600K.
Very few PSP games sell 1 million. GTA Liberty City Stories will eventually crawl to 1M - and that was a brand new exclusive in a series that is far more popular than this final fantasy spin-off. Expecting a remake of an old PS1 game to sell >1M after such a poor opening week is crazy.
presuming that tis gmae has the same attachment rates as ff:tactics which was 2.4% and to make it easy lets say 25 million psp's were sold by the time of it's release with a 2.4% attachment rate this game should sell around 600,000 copies. maybe more cuz its a final fantasy but 2.4% attachment rate sounds about right so i would sya about 600,000 copies
I am nobody...just a user here looking to give you a hint as to why your statement is being down bid.
The simExchange users tend to favour news and commentary that will help to make proper decisions regarding the future sales/non sales of a game.
Statements such as yours have no 'substance', they are an opinion but you need to fortify that opinion with sales stats, new pieces, professional analyst links ect ect.
Just my .02 as I've only been here a month but this is what I've gleaned.
I don't remember entirely, but I think FFT either used the in game engine or only had fmv at the title screen. I do remember that in the end the last scene was in game engine. But, the thing is the fmv this time will be incorporated into the game. I know almost for certain there was no fmv within the regular game at all.
Yes, there are a lot of FF PSP games coming, but the 2 anniversary games release very soon, while FFCC won't release until probably OCT or NOV. FFT:LW will probably release between Fall and early next year. So they're still spread out. SE has not given release dates because I'm sure they're trying to give each game its own time to shine.
Yes, FFTAdvance did reasonably well, but remember that it was a great disappointment compared to its predecessor. Also FFT games are more suited to a PSP age audience than a GBA audience.
I think FFT:LW could sell between 500k-1.5mil, the game could end up having a real long tail. It's not an easy game to peg.
Joe80 - Didn't the original FFT have FMVs as well? I seem to remember opening and closing ones, at least. I understand that there will be new ones in The Lion War, but that's not to say that there weren't any to begin with ;)
kspraydad makes some good points: there's a lot of FF PSP games due out this year as it is and 1.2 million is a very steep estimate for almost any PSP title. As a point of comparison, Final Fantasy Tactics Advance sold over one million units, but that title was an entirely new game.
Something else I just thought of: IIRC, Europe never got the original FFT for the PS1, so if this new port is released there, it will probably sell nicely.
FF games, except perhaps some of the gba releases, always do very well; even if there is competition from other FF or quality SEnix games.
Some pros to FFT:LW: - upgraded port with new characters, jobs, & content. - now has fmv - now has multiplayer, including coop - many people who always wanted FFT could not get it & now they will be able to.
This is one of the games that will result in me getting a PSP, and I already beat its PS1 version, but sold it and always wanted to get it again. Now its coming back greatly improved.
