"Haze switches you from the perspective of an elite sci-fi trooper to an earthy rebel, and we got to spend some times on both sides of their war for this preview.
Overall, Haze has some interesting ideas and solid action. Free Radical has a long history of great shooters, and it's still got time to correct issues and polish the game.
"Shane Carpenter is a Mantel soldier that follows orders and fights against the Promise Hand for the company's cause. However, one mission causes him to rethink the reasons for fighting, and as events spiral out of control, Shane defects from the company and joins the rebel cause."
We're not sure how that one is going to be judged, in the final analysis - the game certainly looks good, and some of the environments, like the jungle areas, are incredibly lush and packed with foliage. The visuals aren't by any means a leap ahead of what we've seen before in FPS titles, though - if Haze is going to win over hearts and minds among gamers, it's going to be with great gameplay, not with flashy visuals.
Ubisoft has revealed to MCV the release date for PS3 exclusive Haze, the latest game from Timesplitters creators Free Radical Design.
The game was delayed from last Christmas, where it was billed as a major release for PlayStation 3. It will now hit retail on May 22nd, with rumours circulating that a 360 version may also be coming later in the year.
Ubisoft has to imply exclusiveness as part of their agreement with SONY I would imagine.
I once again go back to Howard Stringer himself holding up HAZE as an example of a game being developed on PS3 first and then ported to Xbox.
Unnamed Ubisoft employees doesn't change my opinion that this is a timed release and that the delays are allowing FR to work on the 360 port so that they come out within a reasonable time of each other (1 year).
