DSi shows no sign of letting up in Japan. The latest sales milestone for the system is the two million mark, which Famitsu publisher Enterbrain announced today was reached over the week ending March 22.
The DSi now has a userbase of 2,024,431 units in Nintendo's home territory, where it launched in November of last year.
The more important comparison is DSi vs. DSL, not DSi vs DS (fat). The DS (fat) have lackluster sales performance in US (compared to PSP), while DSL are breaking sales record left and right.
We've picked up on the fact many of you aren't feelin' the DSi. But you know what? Lots of other people are, because according to GameStop, pre-orders for the handheld are off the charts.
According to GameStop senior vice president Bob McKenzie, DSi pre-orders are double the size of the original DS:
According to Japanese economic newspaper Nihon Keizai Shimbun, the Nintendo DS will surpass 100 million in lifetime worldwide sales during the middle of March. As of December 31, 2008, the official global DS sales tally was 96.22 million.
Nintendo is to release the latest in it series of handheld consoles, the DSi, in Europe on April 3.
The company has said that is does not officially set recommended retail prices for its products, but stores in the UK are already listing the DSi with a price of GBP 149.
Comment: April 3 is before the US release?
@oznerol, NPD tracks every variation as a separate thing, but they always report the combined value. If one subscribed to their service and got full data, one could see individual stats for Xbox 360 Core, Arcade, 20 GB Pro, 60 GB Pro, Elite, and probably more.
