This is just about the only title that would cause the PSP to pass the DS. It'll be interesting to see if it lasts for longer than a week. The new Pokemon Mystery Dungeon title still beat it in sales by about 100k units.
@rikitikitik, I believe they are, but I'm not 100% certain. I just noticed that Just_Ben had posted VGCharts article that has similar data, I apologize for kind of covering that again. Though a source outside VGC is good too. His article here.
Are the special PSP bundles included in the hardware sales? There were 77,777 bundles released if I remember correctly, and, if that were the case, only ~23k PSP units were sold, which is actually what the PSP sells normally.
"The popularity of the franchise cannot be ignored -- according to the latest sales charts from Japan, Final Fantasy VII: Crisis Core sold around 470,000 copies in a single week. This also prompted the sale of nearly 100,000 PSP units, which actually topped the number of Nintendo DS Lite units sold."
This has sold 77,777 in PSP FFCC Bundles alone. Total sales should be very high. http://kotaku.com/gaming/no-surprises/final-fantasy-vii-crisis-core-goes-on-sale-299431.php
"The battle system is a mix of action and non-action elements; it's a bit unusual. Though Zack's movement is free and responsive - you can run with the analog stick or D-pad, and roll out of the way by hitting the Square button, it's still got turn-based elements. We're very impressed with just how good it looks and how well it plays."
