Good question, would be interesting to know how fast WoW reached 1 million and how fast AoC will get to that point. Got a friend who switched from WoW and he is more than happy with his decision right now.
Releasing this game before Warhammer surely wasn't a bad idea and probably gained it a good advantage.
Remember, this is not copies sold, just the number of people who have logged on, so the number of copies sold could be much higher than this. Will this momentum keep up? Since this is an MMO it will have a much longer, and larger, long tail than a regular retail game that only has single player and multiplayer.
The fact that the hype continues to grow will only help this game, especially since looking around the web players are giving it high marks, which means they will recommend their friends buy it so they can play together. It looks like we still may be underpricing this game. Does anyone have data on how World of Warcraft sold in the beginning?

Funcom estimates the day-one ship in (the
number of boxes sent to retail) of the Age of
Conan game to be around 700.000. The Company
underlines that there is high uncertainty regarding
the sell through speed of this day-one shipment.
