@vGInfidel, I have to apologize : For whatever reason, I thought you are talking about PoP PC version (probably because this article is posted as PoP article), even though you are referring to Far Cry 2. My neck to neck comment was for PoP X360 vs PS3, not Far Cry 2 X360 vs PS3. My bad.
@vGInfidel, Here is the article. Go to the prince of persia parts (subtitled "Big Names, smaller sales", and read the relevant text : "The new entry in Ubisoft's Prince of Persia series also failed to chart after its launch in early December. Sales of the console versions -- on the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 -- totaled only 483,000 copies. (PC version physical and digital sales, as with Tomb Raider, were not tracked in this set of reports.) However, we can also say more about Prince of Persia and how well it sold on the two consoles. In particular, Prince of Persia was the fourth best-selling PS3 game in December, between LittleBigPlanet at number 3 and Resistance 2 at number 6.
Since we know that those two other games sold 255,000 and 213,000 units in December, respectively, we can say that the PS3 version of Prince of Persia had sales somewhere between those two figures.
Those numbers suggest that the two versions of Prince of Persia probably had sales within 30,000 units of each other. This is notable, given that the installed base for the Xbox 360 is more than twice that of the PlayStation 3. "
Just found the post and looking at my numbers and the splits with the shipped information i think the prices of the stocks should roughly be as follows.
PS3 - 700k PC - 700k 360 - 1200k
(Note- i am taking these splits from my original analysis which didn't assume equal US sales, if apujanata you have this sort of data i would be happy to figure it in.)
I haven't looked at the splits in depth for quite a while, if i remember correctly I put the PC version at about 25% of total sales, but im not entirely sure. I think it was loosely based off CoD4 numbers (15% i think) and then adjusted up a bit to account for the lower overall number.
Were the PS3 and 360 versions neck to neck in US? Again i can't remember the last time i looked at the splits.
@vGInfidel, What is your estimate of PC version share of overall sales ? We knew that PS3 and X360 version are neck to neck in US, and probably same thing happened in Europe. The big question is PC version, and since I don't play this game, I am at a loss on how to predict the PC version. Since you are short on the PC version, you must have an estimate on how well the PC do. :)
Sorry guys, I didn't dig much deeper past the MCV headline so only just picked up this is shipped. Have changed it.
As decently reviewed games, they might wind up selling well-ish for the first quarter of the year. Ubi described PoP as a slow starter but said it had picked up well.
I'm still hoping to pick up Far Cry 2 myself but yeah another 1m shipped might be a tall order.
PS3 - 1.1 million PC - 1.1 million 360 - 1.8 million
Total - 4 million
Now the shipped number is only 2.9million so I'd say we can assume a tad over 2million for total sales. Are Ubisoft going to ship another million units on top of the 500k + already in the supply channel? I think not. Chances are there won't be any more significant shipments so the shipped figure will be around 3 million. Already a million below our estimate, then we are expecting that all of these will sell. Again highly unlikely, so I would put a combined figure of 2.5-2.8million total across all three platforms. We are predicting ~50% more than this.
