csinning, those are good points but I think that's become the common place excuse for people who can't afford good televisions. If this were say computers...nobody would ever say you can't tell the difference between running a game in 1280x720 and 1920x1080.
I think the reason the Ridge Racer shots look the same is that the game doesn't actually have 1920x1080 textures and is just blowing up the 1280x720 textures to a 1080p resolution. However, I still don't think that's enough. A low graphics game like World of Warcraft looks leaps and bounds better at 1920x1200 than 1280x720 (comparable resolutions).
This same thing is happening with people who claim there isn't much difference between DVD and Blu-Ray.
Well it has been pointed out by many experts that for the most part the untrained eye can't really tell the difference between 1080p and 720p. Even if you don't by that though its possible that whatever gain there would be is lost by the time you transfer the image through some sort of camera (likely non HD) and then put it in a window on your computer that is most certainly not HD resolutions.
I just took a look at the Ridge Racer 6 (Xbox 360) vs Ridge Racer 7 (PS3) comparison. The thing that gets me about these comparisons is that are they comparing both on a 1080p or 720p television? Most of these comparisons have the PS3 running on a 720p television which is obviously handicapping its graphics. However, one sentence in the article says Ridge Racer 7 is running at 1080p...so shouldn't the Ridge Racer 6 pics look fuzzier since it's supposedly running 720p on a 1080p native screen?
I know the PS3 games data for November is skewed low because of the few PS3s available at the end of the month but it only sold 14,000 copies in North America in November. I still can't find any way to justify the current stock price.
I agree with the bearish calls and I believe this stock is overvalued.
Sales have already started to decline.
It will take time for Sony to recover from their recent production problems. By the time there is a large install base this title will be forgotten by the mass consumer in favor of newer and bigger titles like fellow PS3 racer Gran Turismo 5.
Baron, I think that is all true, but the NPD November numbers indicate it is overvalued compared to the other PS3 games listed.
For this stock price to be true, it needs to have greater momentum than the other games, but instead demand appears to be waning.
If we also take into account the fact that the number of PS3s in customer hands will be much lower than when this stock IPOed, I think it needs to be sold down a bit.
I think selling would be a bit premature. This is a solid game in a well-respected series. It's the premier racing game for Sony's Next Generation system. We've got to take the long view here. Ridge Racer 7 is a good buy.
It looks like this game is not selling all that well in relation to other PS3 games. According to the November NPD results, it was #5 on PS3. There is currently a mispricing between this and the top 4 games. Resistance, CoD3, and Marvel are all priced lower than Ridge Racer.
The only mirky factor is how the Japanese sales of Ridge Racer are still carrying through.
I would recommend selling down this and buying up Resistance, CoD3, and Marvel for PS3.
