Multiplayer: “Mass Effect” was announced as a trilogy. Creatively, how do you go about determining that you’re making a trilogy? Ray Muzyka, BioWare co-founder: Great science fiction arcs often occur in trilogies. It seems like it’s sort of the way of it. Maybe it’s a convenient number. But it allows you to have different pacing in parts of the story. So we’re excited about the next installments.

An agreement has been made for Mass Effect 2 and 3 to both be published by Microsoft as well, with BioWare and EA to be listed as developers rather than publishers. BioWare, EA and Microsoft have yet to officially announce Mass Effect 2 although the sales and critical acclaim have been high so it would seem to be a likely possibility

Electronic Arts recently announced that a sequel to Mass Effect is forthcoming in 2010, but that apparently doesn't mean developer BioWare is done supporting the first game. BioWare community manager Jay Watamaniuk said another round of DLC is on the way for the sci-fi RPG, although he didn't give specific dates or details. A PC patch is also reportedly on the way in the next couple months.

Before its release, Mass Effect was anointed as a can't-miss prospect by practically anyone who saw or read about it. In theory, the package was tantalizing — a hybrid role-playing game with shooter elements, Oblivion-caliber exploration possibilities across a huge galaxy and one of the deepest stories ever crafted. There was also the concept of the player making gut-wrenching moral choices that would reverberate throughout the course of his or her journey.

Speaking with a group of industry analysts, EA Games president Frank Gibeau said that sci-fi opera Mass Effect will be a franchise for the company "for a very long time" ... Boy, that didn't sound sinister at all, did it?

According to a supposed insider, the next issue of OXM will offer tantalizing information for XBOX 360 fans. That being the magazine is expected to announce that the Mass Effect Sequels will remain exclusive to the 360. Will this rumor pan out? We shall see.
