Mass Effect Gets M Rating

Kotaku - July 2, 2007

Submitted by charron (290) at 7:11AM PST on July 2, 2007

Mass Effect officially received an (unsurprising) M rating from the ESRB. What was surprising, however, are the "partial nudity" and "sexual themes" descriptors, which are already sparking debate.

Don't know about you, but Bring Down the Sky was a little disappointing for this particular saviour of the universe. But never mind. BioWare will be bringing out more Mass Effect DLC, right? Right? Probably. Speaking with MTV, BioWare's Greg Zeschuk said "We’re also looking at some other post-release content". When pushed a little further on the topic of DLC, he replied:

Bring Down The Sky Review (5/10)

Eurogamer - March 25, 2008

This is really just a medium-sized combat-heavy side-quest that wouldn't have had many players rushing to check it out. Despite the compelling race-against-time concept, there's no game-clock running - probably because disaster looms in four hours in-game, but you can finish the mission in a quarter of that in real time. So instead of plot twists and role-playing, it's just blast, blast, drive, drive, blast, blast.

Cybercast Warns Parents Away From Sexy Mass Effect

Kotaku.com - January 11, 2008

"Conservative News Service Cybercast today issued a release entitled "Sex in Video Game Makes Waves Through Industry", which focuses on a topic that has been our own focus on numerous occasions for notably different reasons - the Mass Effect sex scene. The article is riddled with quotes from one Cathy Ruse, a lawyer and senior fellow for legal studies at the Family Research Council. I found it helpful to read her words while imagining her foaming at the mouth."

Videogamer Give Mass Effect: 10/10

videogamer - November 19, 2007

Mass Effect is the most beautiful dice roll you never saw. It is an illusion, a picture perfect disguise, one that makes the foundations upon which role playing games are built - statistics, levelling up, character development - dissolve in an HD gust of wind. Because of this Mass Effect transcends its genre - a genre that began with a notepad, pen and dice all those years ago - and fully deserves its rightful place in the pantheon of science-fiction entertainment.

BioWare aims for trilogy to start and finish on 360

Games Radar - September 18, 2007

Submitted by justcrim (595) at 2:35PM PST on September 19, 2007

The Mass Effect Trilogy is suppose to be completed within the Xbox 360's life cycle, so long as it lasts longer then the last generation. Bioware also confirmed that there will be downloadable content to "bridge the gap" between game releases. Bioware refused to comment on Mass Effect being ported to the PS3. Purely stating that "Can't really comment on that aspect yet, it's too far into the future. Thinking a year in to the future is a big challenge these days. The law we can't control is the length of the console cycle."

Riyad Emeran: "Many games are described as space epics, but Mass Effect really does live up to that moniker. The visuals and conversation system are groundbreaking, and I defy anyone not to be impressed when they see this game running for the first time. It's a shame that the game play is let down in some fundamental areas, but even so, I have to recommend that any Xbox 360 owner give it a try." Overall: 8/10
